Picasso one said, “The purpose of art is to wash the dust of daily life off our souls”
And that’s the drive behind me and my photography, my art. To wash a little bit of dust off your soul.
I’m a documentary photographer, a photojournalist. I’m unobtrusive in my work. People forget I’m there. My images are not so much about what you, your business or your products look like, but who you are and the relationships between us all. My photography is essentially about people and relationships. By capturing those interactions – the emotions, the reactions – I help you to tell YOUR story, to show the real people behind your business, your wedding, your event.
I’m a LIFE Photographer
Business Life, Community Life, Family Life, Street Life, Natural Life,
New Zealand Life
I am a very experienced professional photographer. What do I mean by ‘professional’? For more than 15 years photography has been my full-time career, not just something I do on the side. In a highly competitive market, this is important to you, my client, because it means that I work hard to achieve high standards and deliver great photographs that make my customers happy meeting their needs.
Continuing Professional Development is also an essential part of being a professional. In 2005, I was awarded a Distinction as a Licentiate Member of the Royal Photographic Society, whose Distinctions are recognised as highly prestigious awards in the photographic world. Since then I have regularly attended training courses and workshops in the New Zealand the USA and the UK. I enjoy challenging myself to continually grow and improve in my profession, and I strongly believe I have a responsibility to my clients to keep my skills, knowledge and creativity up to date.
I was born and brought up in the UK and I’ve loved photography since I was a 10 year old when I was given my first camera. With the arrival of digital technology my photography really took off. After 20 years in IT, I gave up the corporate world and made a major career switch to become a full-time professional photographer and built a very busy photographic business in Devon.
In 2012 I emigrated to New Zealand with my partner, Susan, ready for a new adventure. We settled near Napier in Hawke’s Bay on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island, an area famed for its hot summers and mild winters, sandy beaches and braided rivers.
At the end of 2017 my partner Susan and I purchased Portico Gallery and Picture Framing in Rotorua and we moved up to the Bay of Plenty. The gallery is run by Susan who is a picture framer and artist and once again, I’ll be enjoying creating a fun, full-time photographic business while also making the most of the wonderful lifestyle that The Bay of Plenty offers.
When I’m not working, I get out to explore our amazing New Zealand countryside; tramping, biking or camping in our small caravan. And of course, my camera goes with me – so many opportunities for awesome images literally on my doorstep.
